IBM Embraces Linuxby Dave MurphyISSN 1535-3613
IBM's DB2 database system will be bundled with TurboLinux, a version of the UNIX-like operating system that is especially good at connecting host computers with Windows systems. A DB2/Linux combination gives corporate IS managers an easy way to bring Linux into the mainstream corporate environment. By bundling, no one will ever get fired for buying Linux (from IBM). IBM will further imbue Linux with its name by allowing AIX users to share files with Linux users and porting its Notes and Domino webserver to Linux later this year. IBM invited Linus Torvalds, who created Linux while a student at the University of Helsinki, to be its Lotus developer conference keynote speaker June 20-23 in San Francisco. What do you think about IBM's embracing Linux? Leave your comments at the message center.
