Microsoft Gives MS Mail Users Late Notice

by Dave Murphy
ISSN 1535-3613

Dave Murphy, ITrain founder Microsoft recently announced that MS Mail users need to download and install service packs to get their mail systems ready for the year 2000 (Y2K).

I'm surprised that Microsoft has waited this long to help their customers prepare for potential Y2K problems. Just a few months ago, Microsoft was still shaking their finger at rival Lotus and it's already-announced Y2K problems. But it looks like the pot was calling the kettle black.

Fixes are required for users of:

  • Mail 3.5
  • Mail Client 3.5
  • Mail Client 4.21
  • Remote Mail Client 3.2
  • Mail Gateway 4.0

And the really bum news is that earlier version can't even be fixed to meet Y2K requirements. But what really bugs me is that Microsoft has waited so long to stress the need for these products to be fixed or outright upgraded to current versions.
